The Association of Igbo Residents in Ibadan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, while raising concerns over what it described as attempts by external political actors to destabilise the state.
Addressing journalists on Saturday in Ibadan, the group said it convened the press conference in response to recent political developments and statements capable of undermining the peace and steady progress being enjoyed in Oyo State.

The association specifically criticised alleged comments and activities linked to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, accusing him of stirring unnecessary tension and attempting to import political disputes into Oyo State.
According to the group, it is inappropriate for individuals without constitutional roles in the state to interfere in its internal affairs, warning that such actions could distract the current administration from its developmental agenda.

The association further expressed concern over alleged alliances involving Nyesom Wike, which it claimed were aimed at undermining the Makinde-led government, particularly through controversies surrounding the revered Olubadan stool.
Describing the Olubadan Stool as a sacred institution, the group cautioned against dragging traditional leadership into partisan politics or using it for personal ambitions.

The Igbo residents also faulted remarks reportedly made by the former Governor of ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose during a recent political gathering, where he allegedly predicted a negative political future for Governor Makinde.
They described such comments as inflammatory and urged that political disagreements be handled within appropriate channels.
Reacting to statements attributed to Fayose during a visit to the Olubadan, where the governor was reportedly criticised over succession issues, the group questioned the basis of such interference.
It maintained that the process of selecting political candidates is clearly defined by law, allowing for either consensus or direct primaries in line with Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
The association dismissed speculations of an impeachment plot against Governor Makinde as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that the governor has continued to enjoy widespread support due to his performance in office.
Highlighting achievements of the administration, the group cited improvements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, and workers’ welfare, noting that Oyo State has remained relatively peaceful and inclusive under Makinde’s leadership.
“As law-abiding residents and stakeholders in the prosperity of this state, we will not fold our arms and allow external forces to sow division where unity has been carefully built,” the group stated.
It called on residents of Oyo State to remain calm, vigilant, and focused on development, urging them to ignore politically motivated rumours and propaganda.
The association also appealed to leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to caution members whose public statements could deepen internal divisions within the party.
Reaffirming its position, the group declared continued support for Governor Makinde, stressing that Oyo State remains committed to peace, unity, and sustained development.
“Oyo State belongs to its people, and no amount of political mischief will derail its progress,” the association concluded.
