The deputy governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal on Friday swung into action after meeting with the three head of ministries and parastatals assigned to his office for supervision including coordinating Director of Housing Corporation.
The meeting, which was held at the Governor’s office, Agodi secretariat, had in attendance head of Ministries of Culture and Tourism, Establishments and Training and Special Duties and other government functionaries, charging them to key into governor Seyi Makinde’s mission and vision.
While addressing newsmen after the closed door meeting, the deputy governor who thanked the Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, for the opportunity, said that he had received the news while in Abuja.
He added that he needed to interact with the honourable commissioners and other parastatals, as well as the coordinating director of Housing Corporation, for their commitment, loyalty and experience in order to move forward and key into the vision of the governor.
According to Lawal, for the office of the deputy governor to oversee the three ministries and housing corporation, indicates clearly that the Governor has a template that we must follow and also try to have an enduring legacies in the ministries.
Regarding Establishment and Training, he declared: “By the mission and vision of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, no civil servants would be left unpaid his gratuity as part of the commitment, His Excellency, gave about four to three days ago, and I would work to ensure that this commitment is prevailed through adequate supervision and strengthening of the ministry.
“The ministry of Culture and Tourism is a revenue yielding ministry if properly harnessed and supervised. We must come out of the box and see how we can make use of tourism that we have in large numbers in Oyo state to earn good income. We can make a lot of money from our cultural activities and reinvigorating our culture in the youth.
“While the ministry of Special Duties which will also be supervised by the office of the deputy governor has a key component activities which is the administration of fuel dumb to ensure that transparency is infused in that particular sector in addition to other functions the ministry is performing.”
“Simeon Adebo Staff Development Centre has gone moribund for quite some times now. It is the commitment of this administration under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde to really resuscitate the center which is the pride of the service.
In the time past, even the name, Simeon Adebo, is a seasoned administrator of note. So, we would not allow it to go into moribund. We want to resuscitate it and infuse life to it.
The deputy governor explained that the meeting is basically to explore commitment of human angle into their activities much as the government may wish to accomplish, adding that it’s the civil servants, commissioners and others that will make it happen.
“We must hit the ground running as from now on and ensure that we accomplish the target and goals we have set for ourselves.
“We want to assure our people out there that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is for them to look after the needs of civil servants, non- civil servants, teachers, market men and women, traders among others because it is their administration and we are going to cater for them”, he added.
