The renowned Yoruba actor reportedly passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling stage-four cancer.

His death was confirmed by his daughter,Kira Taiwo, who announced the development during an emotional live session on Instagram.

Kira, who was visibly distraught, broke down in tears while announcing the death of her father.













 

The development was also confirmed by multiple sources, including the founder of Best of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi, who announced the actor’s death on social media. Veteran actor and filmmaker Saheed Balogun also mourned Ogogo in an emotional tribute.

Ogogo’s death came barely a week after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, made emotional appeals for medical assistance for their father, disclosing that he was battling stage-four cancer.

According to reports, the family had sought assistance from medical professionals and hospitals after doctors reportedly informed them that chemotherapy could no longer be administered because of the advanced stage of the illness.

The actor’s condition had generated widespread concern among his colleagues, fans and well-wishers across Nigeria.

 

Earlier in the week, reports had circulated on social media claiming that Ogogo had died. The report was subsequently dismissed by his daughter, Lima, who described it as fake news and urged the public to stop spreading unverified information.

However, his death was confirmed on Sunday, bringing to an end the life and career of one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood.

Born on October 31, 1959, in Ilaro, Ogun State, Taiwo Hassan built a successful career as an actor, producer, director and screenwriter. He became widely known by his stage name, Ogogo, and was regarded as one of the familiar faces and influential figures in the Yoruba film industry.

Before becoming a full-time actor, Hassan reportedly trained and worked as an automobile mechanic and also worked with the Lagos State Water Corporation before devoting himself fully to the entertainment industry.

His death has thrown the Nigerian entertainment industry into mourning, with colleagues, fans and admirers expected to continue paying tributes to the veteran actor and celebrating his contributions to Yoruba cinema.

Further details concerning his funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
