The Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, has felicitated the good people of Akinyele Local Government and Nigerians at large on the occasion of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, calling for renewed commitment to the ideals of democracy, unity, peaceful coexistence, and community development.
In a Democracy Day message made available to the public through his Chief Media Aide, Ogundipe Miracle, the Council Boss paid glowing tribute to Nigeria’s democratic heroes whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the democratic freedoms and rights enjoyed today.
He noted that June 12 remains a significant symbol of courage, resilience, and the triumph of the people’s will over oppression.
Speaking on the significance of the day, Hon. Akinleye stated:
“Dear good people of Akinyele Local Government,
As we commemorate Democracy Day, we are reminded of the sacrifices, struggles, and unwavering commitment of our heroes past who fought relentlessly for the democratic values we enjoy today.
Their courage and patriotism continue to inspire us to build a society founded on justice, equity, freedom, and the rule of law.
Democracy is not merely about elections; it is about fostering love, unity, inclusion, and collective responsibility towards nation-building.”
He urged residents of Akinyele Local Government to embrace the spirit of togetherness and mutual respect, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved through unity of purpose.
According to him, every citizen has a role to play in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting peaceful coexistence within the community.
The Chairman further used the occasion to express deep concern over the recent abduction of teachers and students in Orire Local Government.
He stated that the people of Akinyele Local Government stand firmly in solidarity with the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, the families of the victims, and the entire people of Oyo State during this difficult period.
“We remember the abducted teachers and students of Orire Local Government in our thoughts and prayers.
We strongly condemn this unfortunate incident and all acts of criminality capable of threatening the peace and security of our dear state.
We commend the swift and determined efforts of the Oyo State Government and security agencies towards securing the safe return of the victims, and we pray fervently that they regain their freedom unharmed in the shortest possible time.”
Hon. Akinleye also called on residents of Akinyele Local Government to remain vigilant and security conscious at all times.
He urged citizens to promptly report suspicious movements, unfamiliar activities, and security concerns to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing that security remains a collective responsibility.
“As a government, we will continue to collaborate with security agencies and community stakeholders to ensure the safety of lives and property. I encourage our people to remain alert and always provide useful information to relevant authorities whenever strange activities are noticed within their communities.”
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy, the Chairman stated that Akinyele Local Government would not relent in replicating the outstanding developmental strides and people-oriented policies of Governor Seyi Makinde at the grassroots level.
“My administration remains resolute in its commitment to emulating and consolidating on the remarkable achievements of my principal, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde. Let’s all rally behind the peoples Governor to lead our country to the promised land that our heroes past fought for.
The Better Nigeria that our heroes laboured for can only be achieved through the presidency of Engr Seyi Makinde who has shown to the world various strategic efforts that will make Democracy to thrive, we shall continue to pursue initiatives that improve infrastructure, enhance security, strengthen education, promote healthcare delivery, and create opportunities for our people.
Together, we will continue to build a more prosperous and progressive Akinyele Local Government.”
While extending warm Democracy Day greetings to all residents, Hon. Akinleye called on the people to remain steadfast in their support for good governance and collective development.
