The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in celebration of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha festival.
This was disclosed on Monday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the declaration underscores the Federal Government’s recognition of the religious significance and spiritual importance of Eid-ul-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo extended the Federal Government’s goodwill message to Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a sacred celebration that promotes the virtues of sacrifice, obedience to Allah, love, and compassion for humanity.
The government also encouraged Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for the nation and reflect on the collective quest for peace, unity, security, and sustainable development.
“It is in the spirit of unity, brotherhood, and shared national values that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a happy, peaceful, and fulfilling Eid-ul-Adha celebration,” the statement added.
