A PDP Chieftain and Hopeful for Ibadan NorthWest/SouthWest Federal Constituency, Mayegun Sunday Olusegun Babanumi, has called for unity, peace, and deeper spiritual reflection as Christians mark Ash Wednesday and Muslims commence the holy month of Ramadan.
In a message themed “United in Faith: Ash Wednesday & Ramadan Together,” Babanumi emphasized the unique significance of the two sacred observances coinciding, describing the moment as a powerful reminder of shared values across faiths.

Ash Wednesday signals the beginning of Lent in the Christian calendar, a period of repentance, fasting, and prayer, while Ramadan represents a month of fasting, devotion, and charity for Muslims worldwide.

According to Babanumi, both seasons underscore sacrifice, compassion, and renewed commitment to God and humanity.
“May this sacred time bring peace, reflection, and unity. May the Lord draw us closer to Him and to one another,” he stated.
The initiator of S.O.B.I. urged Nigerians, regardless of religious affiliation, to use the period to strengthen bonds of love and mutual respect, especially in their communities.
He noted that the convergence of Ash Wednesday and Ramadan offers a rare opportunity for collective introspection and interfaith harmony.
He also encouraged acts of kindness, generosity to the less privileged, and prayers for peace and progress in the nation. He stressed that unity of purpose and faith-based values remain critical to building a more harmonious and prosperous society.
