The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Lagelu Local Government Area has recorded a major boost to its structure, as thousands of members from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Accord Party formally defected to the party at a well-attended event that also saw the official inauguration of the Lagelu APM Campaign Council.
The ceremony, held at the APM party secretariat in Lalupon area, brought together party leaders, newly defected members, and residents from across various wards in the local government area, in what observers describe as one of the most significant political realignments in Lagelu ahead of the 2026/2027 elections.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Akintunde Emmanuel, the Oyo State Assembly member representing Lagelu state constituency, described the mass defection as a clear indication that residents of Lagelu were losing confidence in opposition parties, and turning instead to APM’s ‘People First’ agenda.
The defectors, drawn largely from APC and Accord structures across Lagelu, included members from various wards of the local government area, with many of them citing alignment with APM’s ‘Nigeria First’ agenda as their reason for switching allegiance.
As part of the event, the Lagelu APM Campaign Council was formally inaugurated, with members and leadership sworn in alongside other principal officers tasked with coordinating the party’s mobilization and campaign strategy across the local government area.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the local government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen stressed that APM was particularly encouraged by the organisational capacity, grassroots reach and the political network which the defectors are bringing into the party.
He added that the ruling party remained open to Nigerians, who are genuinely committed to the progress, stability and development of the country.
The development is expected to significantly strengthen APM’s grassroots structure in Lagelu, as the party intensifies its mobilization efforts ahead of the forthcoming elections.
