As Nigerians mark the 2026 Democracy Day celebration, the Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government and Political Head/Administrator of Ajorosun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ibrahim Oladebo Simple, has called on citizens to remain steadfast in their commitment to democracy, peaceful coexistence, and national development.

In a Democracy Day message made available to journalists, Hon. Simple described June 12 as a historic symbol of the collective struggle for justice, freedom, and the right of Nigerians to determine their political future through democratic governance.

He noted that the annual commemoration serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by patriotic Nigerians who stood firmly for democracy and the rule of law, stressing that the nation must continue to protect and strengthen democratic institutions for the benefit of present and future generations.

According to him, democracy remains the most viable platform for sustainable development, citizen participation, and accountable leadership.

“June 12 represents the triumph of the people’s will.

It is a day that reminds us of the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of countless Nigerians who fought for democratic governance.

As we celebrate today, we must recommit ourselves to the ideals of justice, fairness, transparency, and responsible leadership.”

Hon. Simple stated that while Nigeria’s democratic journey has witnessed significant milestones over the years, greater efforts are still required to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every community, particularly at the grassroots level where the needs of the people are most pressing.

The Egbeda Local Government Vice Chairman emphasized the importance of investing in youth empowerment, quality education, economic opportunities, security, and infrastructure development as critical pillars for national growth and stability.

He also urged Nigerians to rise above ethnic, religious, and political differences and embrace unity, tolerance, and patriotism in the interest of national progress.

“Our diversity should be our strength and not a source of division.

The future of Nigeria depends on our collective ability to work together, support one another, and promote peaceful coexistence irrespective of our backgrounds.”

The Ajorosun LCDA Political Head further called on leaders at all levels to continue prioritizing policies and programmes that improve the living conditions of citizens, particularly the vulnerable and underserved members of society.

While expressing confidence in Nigeria’s future, Hon. Simple encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope despite prevailing economic, security and social challenges, noting that resilience, hard work, and responsible governance would ultimately lead the nation to greater heights.

He also commended the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his commitment to good governance, infrastructure development, and people-oriented policies that continue to positively impact residents across the state.

Hon. Simple appreciated the people of Egbeda Local Government and Ajorosun LCDA for their unwavering support, cooperation, and trust in leadership, assuring them of his continued dedication to service, community development, and the overall welfare of the people.

“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us continue to pray for our nation, support democratic institutions, and work together towards building a peaceful, prosperous, and united Nigeria.

Our best days are still ahead, and together we can create a brighter future for generations to come.”

He congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of Democracy Day and wished the nation enduring peace, progress, stability, and prosperity.

“Happy Democracy Day to the good people of Egbeda Local Government, Ajorosun LCDA, Oyo State, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May our democracy continue to flourish, and may our nation continue to grow in unity, peace, and development.”
