The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly and lawmaker representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, has firmly distanced himself from the alleged plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde, reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to the state’s leadership.

Hon. Oyekola made this position known in a strongly worded statement following disclosures reportedly made by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, regarding an alleged high-level conspiracy to remove the governor from office.
According to the Chief Whip, the Speaker revealed during a meeting that the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja (Arusa I), invited him to a meeting where he was urged to work with other lawmakers to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Makinde, with promises of billions of naira as inducement.
He further noted that the alleged plot was said to involve Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, with additional meetings reportedly held, including one with the presidency on April 9, 2026. At that meeting, the Speaker was offered a ticket to the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, alongside assurances that other lawmakers would be granted automatic return tickets to the State Assembly.

The statement also revealed that financial inducements running into billions of naira were promised to facilitate the impeachment process.
Reacting, Hon. Oyekola categorically dissociated himself from the alleged scheme, stressing that he neither participated in nor supports any move capable of destabilizing the present administration.
“I wish to state clearly that I, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola, am not involved in any plot to impeach Governor Seyi Makinde.
I am not a bastard indigene of Oyo State, and I cannot sell my conscience for money or personal gain,” he declared.
He described Governor Makinde as a performing and people-oriented leader whose administration has delivered peace, stability, and remarkable development across the state.
Hon. Oyekola further praised the governor as “a leader loved by the people, whose governance has brought tranquility and meaningful progress to Oyo State.”
He concluded by reaffirming his steadfast loyalty to Governor Makinde, pledging continued support for policies and programmes aimed at improving the lives of the people of Oyo State.
