…Lauds Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu’s roles

The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola, has congratulated the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr ‘Seyi Makinde for what he described as the governor’s “decisive leadership” in stabilising the party and safeguarding its unity at a critical political moment, at the just concluded National Convention in Ibadan.

In a statement released and made available to newsmen, on Monday, Oyekola commended Makinde for demonstrating uncommon maturity, courage, and commitment to the collective interest, noting that the governor’s intervention had helped steer the party away from internal tensions that could have threatened its cohesion.

He said Governor Makinde’s role in recent engagements reaffirmed his reputation as a leader who prioritises consensus-building over conflict.

“His Excellency has once again shown that he is not only a bridge-builder but a unifier whose goal is the long-term sustainability of the party,” Oyekola said.

The lawmaker also extended his congratulations to the party’s newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) members, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by promoting inclusiveness, fairness, and constant dialogue across all levels of the party.

Oyekola emphasized that the new national leadership must deepen consultations with stakeholders, noting that the party’s success depends on its ability to maintain internal harmony, strengthen democratic processes, and remain responsive to grassroots concerns.

“As the new executives take charge, this is the time to widen the circle, engage every tendency within the party, and ensure that no member feels marginalised,”

“Only through inclusiveness and sustained consultation can we consolidate recent gains and position the party for future electoral victories, he said.

He expressed optimism that with Makinde’s guidance and the fresh mandate of the national officers, the party is poised for renewed unity and strategic progress ahead of upcoming political engagements.

Oyekola however, applauded the impact of the national elective convention member, Sen. Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu for his role in stabilizing the party as well as working towards the unifier goals of His Excellency Engr ‘Seyi Makinde.

“Aduke you’re indeed a blessing to us in Oyo State and Southwest Nigeria, you’ve shown your capacity as a democrat with a milk of human kindness in promoting inclusiveness, fairness, and Unity, focused on the expectations of Nigerians..” he said.
