The Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola, donated over one thousand pieces of sportswear to public primary school pupils in his immediate constituency on Friday.

Oyekola, a lawmaker on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), donated the sportswear items to the pupils of St. Mary Anglican Primary School, Iyalamu Oyo.

He stated that the reason for this gesture was to alleviate the hardship and suffering of the pupils’ parents due to hyperinflation, where the prices of all goods and services rise uncontrollably over a defined period.

According to the lawmaker, “St. Mary Anglican Primary School will hold its annual sports festival on March 5th, 2024.

Whenever I drove by the road, the pupils would spot my car and shout, ‘Hon. Oyekola, we love you.’ I’m always excited about this because even at a tender age, the younger ones show appreciation.

Through my inquiries, I realized that their annual sports festival would be held on March 5th, 2024. Then, I began to ask for the total number of students and paid for their sports apparel and other sporting activities.”

“This is to ensure that every child has free access to sportswear and comes to the field with a productive, smiling face towards field and track events.

The pupils are the leaders of tomorrow, and their foundational learning must be equipped with both curricular and extracurricular activities.

As a representative, I’m highly delighted to donate the sportswear, and the pupils were also happy today.”

Oyekola further urged the pupils to perform excellently well on the sports day. He advised parents in the constituency to prioritize the education of their children, adding that such a move would enable them to become useful not only to themselves but also to the society at large.

Equally, the school headmistress, Mrs. Awolola Adeyinka Olufunke, described the gesture as a giant stride aimed at investing in the future of the younger generation within the constituency.

She called on other government officials, spirited individuals, and groups in the constituency to emulate the lawmaker in improving the residents of the constituents, saying, “We’re enjoying the dividends of democracy from Hon. Gbenga Oyekola.

He’s a man of the milk of human kindness and has been representing us well at the hallowed chamber of the state assembly.”

“On behalf of the elated pupils, we say thank you for the generous donations to all pupils in St. Mary Anglican Primary School, Iyalamu, Oyo,” she added.
