Amid frequent sensitisation about the importance of eggs and why the industry should be given more attention, the city of Ilaro in Ogun state received high personalities as the Poultry Association of Nigeria Ogun State chapter celebrates THE WORLD EGG DAY.
World Egg Day is an annual celebration that highlights the nutritional benefits and versatility of eggs. Observed on the second Friday of October each year, this day serves as a global acknowledgement of the essential role eggs play in human diets and agriculture. It’s a moment to appreciate the significance of this simple yet powerful food item.
The celebration aims to raise awareness about the high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals found in eggs, promoting them as an affordable and accessible source of nutrition worldwide. World Egg Day also recognizes the economic impact of the poultry industry, which contributes significantly to the livelihoods of many farmers and communities.
This day encourages people to incorporate eggs into their meals, emphasizing their role in maintaining a balanced and healthy diet. Additionally, it serves as a platform to address misconceptions about eggs and disseminate accurate information about their nutritional value.
World Egg Day brings together individuals, communities, and organizations to share recipes, cooking tips, and information about the benefits of eggs. The event fosters a sense of global unity in recognizing the importance of this humble yet indispensable food item in promoting health, well-being, and sustainable food practices.
The World Egg Day celebration with the theme: Egg, food for all ages, had Dr Idris Babtunde Allinson (Chairman PANOG YEWA ZONE) as the host, Engineer Idowu Asenuga (PANOG State chairman) as the Chief host, Oba Dr. Kehinde Olugbenle (The olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewa land HRM) as the Royal father of the day, Dr Babatunde Jesusina (Director of medical services FPI) has the guest speaker while Mrs Alawode Blessing (immediate past chairperson of PANOG) in absentia was the keynote speaker.
The event started at exactly 11 a.m. with a prayer by Mr Noah, the zonal financial secretary. In his welcome speech, the state chairman appreciated all participants and encouraged them to take their health seriously, especially by eating eggs. The Moderator of the event and the State Admin secretary of PANOG Mr Tayo Oguntola identified all invited schools and guests alongside Mr Adebisi (The zonal assistant general secretary and Wamufat agro-allied Programs coord).
The event featured a Talk show by invited secondary school students, spelling B by primary school pupils, such as Poly International College, Perfect Assurance Academy, Galilee College, Great Light House Schools, Ahmadiya Science College, and Ansarudeen Model College among others. A cooking competition was held. The planning committee led by Mr Samuel made Gift items available with the support of sponsors such as Totmak, Livestock feeds, New Hope Feeds, Hybrid feeds, etc. Fundraising was done for the Yewa zonal secretariat.
The unveiling of the moulded biggest egg in the world was done it weighed about 100kg, and the egg was 2.3ft tall and 1.5ft wide. The event remained engaging till the end of it at exactly 2:46 pm.
In attendance were Alhaji and Alhaja M.A. Allinson Chairman/Director Eleshin Livestock Farms Ilaro Nigeria, All the Zonal chairmen, Rep. Of Civil Defense Corps, FRSC, Trace Corps, and Health services, among others.
