In a remarkable display of compassion and dedication, Hon. Monsuru Olalekan Abiola, a Member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Akinyele Constituency I, organized an Empowerment Programme on Thursday, 12th November 2023.
The event, held at the PDP Secretariat in Funduck, Moniya, Ibadan, aimed to support widows in the constituency by donating his first 3 months’ salary to them.
Hon. Abiola, in his heartfelt address, expressed his understanding of the challenges faced by widows and their families after the loss of their husbands. He pledged to stand as their husband, promising continuous support and proper representation.
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, such as Hon. Waheed Akintayo Ilumoka, the House Chairman for Media and Publicity, and Hon. Mrs. Olufunke Olajide Comforter, the House Chairman for Women Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Olusola Owolabi, Akinyele LG Chairman, Hon. Taoreed Adedigba Jimoh.
In attendance were also notable figures like HRH Oba Odediran James Oluyemi JP, the Alakinyele of Akinyele, Mr. Omilabi Ghandi, Alhaji Rafiu Alade, and Alhaji Wahab Gbolagun.
The PDP Party Chairman of Akinyele LG, Hon. Gbenga Adeleke, and other influential individuals, including Engr. Julius Akinsola, Oloye Akin Aderibigbe, and Yemi Amoo, the State PDP Financial Secretary, were also present.
Religious leaders Reverend Sunday Peter Ajasa, the CAN Chairman of Akinyele, and Alhaji Abdul Rasheed Kareem, the Chairman of Leagues of Imam in Akinyele LG, lent their support and blessings to the event.
The generous gesture by Hon. Monsuru Olalekan Abiola was met with overwhelming gratitude from the widows, who expressed their heartfelt appreciation for his kindness and for bringing smiles to their faces.
This event not only showcased Hon. Abiola’s commitment to the welfare of his constituents but also marked the establishment of an Advisory Council, which will further enhance effective representation and progress of Akinyele Constituency I.
Hon. Abiola’s empowerment programme and the establishment of the Advisory Council have set an inspiring precedent for other leaders, highlighting the importance of supporting vulnerable members of society and working towards a brighter future for all.
HRH Oba Odediran James Oluyemi JP, the Alakinyele of Akinyele, commended Hon. Monsuru Olalekan Abiola for his exceptional display of empathy and generosity towards the widows in Akinyele Constituency.
In his remark, he stated, “Hon. Abiola’s selfless act of donating his first 3 months’ salary to support the widows is a testament to his deep-rooted commitment to uplifting the lives of the less privileged. May his compassion continue to inspire others to make a positive impact in our community.”
Hon. Waheed Akintayo Ilumoka, the House Chairman for Media and Publicity, praised Hon. Monsuru Olalekan Abiola for his remarkable initiative and dedication to serving the people of Akinyele Constituency.
He stated, “Hon. Abiola’s empowerment program and establishment of the Advisory Council exemplify his unwavering commitment to ensuring the welfare of our constituents. His selflessness and vision for a better future are truly inspiring. We are fortunate to have such a passionate representative working tirelessly for our community.”
Hon. Mrs. Olufunke Olajide Comforter, the House Chairman for Women Affairs, speaking at the gathering, commended Hon Abiola’s initiative towards empowering the women constituency most especially the window to further create their own economic stability.
According to her widows most especially women faced difficulties of how they can afford to eat, or pay rent, or keep their children in school not only add to the emotional toll but also drastically change their lives, adding that Hon. Lekan Abiola is following in the footsteps of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, whom she described as someone who greatly values women.
She highlighted that Engineer Seyi Makinde has paved the way for women’s inclusion in his administration. Hon. Comforter promised not to let down the women in her constituency.
