Former Commissioner for Works and Transport in Oyo state, Hon. Abdulrahman Afonja, began distributing over 3000 palliatives on Tuesday to Christians and Muslims to commemorate the Lent and Ramadan period.

The initiative, aiming to reach over 250 beneficiaries daily across Ogbomoso zone, utilized various platforms including radio programs, house-to-house distributions to the elderly, as well as to the poorest households and members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the area.

Afonja will also organize an unprecedented Ramadan/Lenten Lecture to bring together a large portion of Ogbomoso residents, including Muslim and Christian brethren, fostering harmony and mutual support.

Additionally, he plans to distribute more food packs such as rice, beans, and garri to alleviate the economic hardship in the country.

Speaking to journalists, the Ogbomoso North PDP chieftain emphasized the unity between Muslims and Christians during this period and the necessity for joint prayers and support for the country’s needy.

He stated, “There’s hunger in the land… I feel their pain, and I have to do my best to feed as many people as possible with the little Almighty Allah has given me.”

The former commissioner distributed the palliatives through several radio stations and extended them to various groups including the elderly, PDP party members, mosques, police stations, security agencies, religious bodies, associations, hospitals, schools, and vulnerable individuals.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for Afonja’s philanthropic efforts over the years, acknowledging his impact on their lives and communities.
