Hon. Matthew Alani Oyeniyi, a former House of Representatives aspirant for Ibadan North Federal Constituency and Aare of Akoboland, has congratulated Abimbola Adekanmbi following his emergence as the preferred successor to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adekanmbi’s emergence, which was confirmed by the Oyo State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Michael Ogunshina, has continued to generate reactions across political circles within and outside the ruling party.

Reacting to the development, Oyeniyi described the governor’s choice as a “round peg in a round hole,” noting that Adekanmbi possesses the experience, competence, and leadership qualities required to sustain and build on the achievements of the current administration.

According to him, Adekanmbi’s track record as Commissioner for Finance under the late former governor, Abiola Ajimobi, remains a strong testament to his capacity in governance and fiscal management.
He added that the former commissioner’s calm disposition, financial expertise, and result-oriented approach to public service have earned him credibility across political divides in the state.
“Oyo State deserves a leader with proven experience and vision. In Adekanmbi, we see a man who understands governance, economic planning, and the pathway to sustainable development,” Oyeniyi stated.

The Ibadan North politician further expressed confidence that Adekanmbi would consolidate on Governor Makinde’s developmental strides if eventually elected, stressing that his emergence signals continuity and stability for the state.
He also prayed for divine wisdom and strength for Adekanmbi as he prepares for the task ahead, describing his emergence as a positive development for the future of Oyo State.
The endorsement is expected to further shape political alignments in the state as stakeholders intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship race.
