Over the past few days, disturbing reports have surfaced about attempts to create instability in Oyo State through an alleged impeachment agenda targeting His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde.

At a recent meeting of members with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, serious concerns were raised over alleged efforts by certain political actors to influence lawmakers and create division within the House. During that meeting, it was revealed that inducements allegedly ranging from N100 million to N1 billion per member were being offered in attempts to pressure lawmakers into actions capable of ruffling the system and destabilizing the government.

More troubling were allegations that Amb. Florence Ajimobi was said to have directly offered funds to the Speaker for distribution to members willing to align with their interest, while Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in a separate meeting, allegedly promised the Speaker financial backing alongside a House of Representatives ticket in the APC as part of efforts to sway legislative loyalty.

If these claims are true, they represent a dangerous assault on democracy and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Any attempt to use money, political inducement, or promises of future office to manipulate democratic institutions is shameful, reckless, and unacceptable. The Oyo State House of Assembly must never become a marketplace where public trust is traded for private political ambition.

Governor Seyi Makinde has continued to provide steady and purposeful leadership in Oyo State. His administration remains focused on governance, development, and the welfare of the people. That mandate must not be threatened by desperate schemes driven by selfish political interests.

It is equally unfortunate that opposition politics in Oyo State appears to be sliding toward covert and unhealthy tactics instead of constructive democratic engagement. Democracy should be about ideas, alternatives, and accountability, not secret plots, inducement, and destabilization.

Oyo State deserves better than politics driven by desperation and hidden agendas. Our democracy must be protected, and the freely given mandate of the people must always remain supreme.
