The political atmosphere in Lagelu Local Government and State Constituency has taken a dramatic turn as stakeholders and faithful party members trooped out en masse across all 14 wards to protest what they described as an unfolding third-term agenda and attempts to impose a candidate on the people.

The widespread protest, which cut across every ward in the constituency, sent a strong and unified message that Lagelu will not accept any third-term candidacy of Hon. Olajide Akintunde (AKT). Demonstrators insisted that such a move contradicts the principles of fairness, equity, and democratic rotation of leadership, stressing that many capable and qualified individuals deserve the opportunity to serve.

Voices at the protest recalled with deep concern the events of the last two election cycles, alleging that the candidacy of Chief (Mrs.) Hajia Oluwatoyin Fatimoh Oyegbori-Oluwa, which was initially given to her, was unjustly withdrawn without any reason.

According to them, this pattern of political manipulation has continued to deny the people a credible and widely accepted choice.

The stakeholders warned that repeating such actions would undermine internal democracy and weaken the values that the present administration stands for.

They emphasized that any attempt to impose a candidate would heighten tension, create division, and erode public trust in the political process.

Many of the demonstrators described Chief (Mrs.) Hajia Oluwatoyin Fatimoh Oyegbori-Oluwa as the rightful owner of the ticket, citing her consistency since 2015, her unwavering commitment, and the sacrifices she has made, including enduring personal loss during the course of her political struggle.

They maintained that her resilience and loyalty distinguish her as a symbol of dedication and true service to the people.

Chants of “No to imposition of power in Lagelu!” echoed across the 14 wards, as protesters called for justice, transparency, and a level playing field for all aspirants.

They insisted that Lagelu must not be reduced to a constituency where power is monopolized at the expense of fairness and due process.

The protesters, therefore, made a passionate appeal to Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene and uphold democratic values by ensuring a free, fair, and credible process.

They urged him to reject any form of bias or perceived endorsement and to stand firmly for equity, justice, and the collective will of the people.

They concluded by affirming that only an inclusive and transparent approach can guarantee peace, unity, and sustained progress in Lagelu Local Government and State Constituency.
