In a historic day ceremony that brought together cooperative members, council political head, and government officials, the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, representing Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Gbenga Joseph Oyekola was honored with the prestigious Award of Excellence by the Atiba Local Government Staff Cooperative Investment and Credit Society Limited.
The award was held today, at the cooperative building, Atiba local government premises, Offa-meta, Oyo, which recognizes Oyekola’s exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to establishing the Cooperative society during his tenure as the executive Chairman of Atiba local government at the return of democracy between 1999 and 2002.
OYHA Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola, known for his steadfast commitment to public service, was praised by cooperative members for his unwavering support towards the establishment of the cooperative society during his regime as the council chairman with zero allocation and advocacy for the welfare of cooperative societies in the Royal Council.
The Award of Excellence, which is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and impact, highlights Oyekola’s role in fostering unity and progress among cooperative members as well as promoting the first-of-its-kind dividends of democracy at the grassroots level.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola expressed gratitude to the cooperative society and pledged to continue championing initiatives that empower grassroots organizations and enhance the socio-economic well-being of residents in Atiba Local Government.
As a constituent, I’m elated by your recognition by giving me the award of excellence in appreciation of selfless efforts in providing an enabling environment for the establishment of the cooperative society.
‘This shall continue to motivate me in proposing bills and motions that are more beneficial to the residents in the hallowed chamber of the state House of Assembly. He said.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries, local government officials, cooperative leaders, and community members who celebrated the milestone achievement and lauded the Chief Whip’s contributions to the state’s legislative and cooperative sectors.
This accolade further cements Gbenga Oyekola’s reputation as a committed legislator dedicated to the advancement of both his constituency and the broader Oyo State community.
Earlier in his welcome address, the President of Atiba Local Government Staff Cooperative, Investment and Credit Society, Comrade David Oladimeji Olayiwola, expressed profound gratitude to the valued shareholders and awardees at the annual 25th general meeting for their continued support and confidence in Atiba Local Government Staff Cooperative.
While congratulating the Awardees, Comrade Olayiwola stated that the sacrifices you made 25 years ago to build this competitive and jealous society do not go unnoticed. You will surely reap the fruits of your labour here in Terrestrial and in Heaven, in Jesus’ name.

He further implored all esteemed members to cultivate more SAVING habits, good investment (Matthew 25:14-30), and financial commitment to our monthly deductions and remittance accordingly.
He said, “I especially thank the NULGE for promptly releasing the monthly deductions with neither confrontation nor negotiation. Our senior citizens (Retirees) are thankful for believing in us, for their continuity after they retire from active service. You will retire, to re-fire in Jesus’ name.
Other recipients of the Award are Alhaja Peju Bakare, the pioneer Chairman of the cooperative society, and several others.
