Twenty-four out of 32 members of the Rivers Assembly have jointly endorsed a document for the impeachment of Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
This decision came after the assembly had removed House Leader Edison Ehie from his position, suspecting his alignment with the Governor.
These crucial choices were made during an unscheduled emergency session held on Monday morning. The extraordinary session occurred between 7 am and 9 am, and notably, it was closed to the press.
Nonetheless, it was confirmed that all 24 legislators who endorsed the impeachment document were in attendance.
Edison Ehie was absent during the session but later arrived with the Governor. By that time, the assembly’s actions had already been finalized, and the lawmakers had exited the assembly complex through the secondary gates, leaving Governor Fubara and Ehie without immediate access.
