Ibadan North Local Government was agog on Friday, October 23, 2026, as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, officially flagged off the construction of the 4.5-kilometre Ijokodo–Agbaje and Surulere Street–Apete–Gbaremu Ring Road, in a major infrastructure intervention expected to improve connectivity, ease transportation and stimulate socioeconomic activities across the benefiting communities.

The ceremony attracted prominent political leaders, government functionaries, traditional market leaders, religious leaders, party stakeholders, community representatives and residents from Ibadan North and neighbouring Ido Local Government, underscoring the significance of the project to the people of both local government areas.

In his welcome address, the executive chairman of Ibadan north local government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade expressed profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Oyo State and the Allied Peoples’ movement APM presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for providing him with the platform to serve and demonstrate his commitment to grassroots development.

The council chairman disclosed that his administration had constructed approximately 30 kilometres of roads since its inception, describing the flag-off of the additional 4.5-kilometre road as another step towards improving the living conditions of residents and addressing critical infrastructure needs across the local government.

He emphasised that the road was particularly important because of its strategic connection between communities in Ibadan North and neighbouring Ido Local Government, noting that improved road infrastructure would facilitate movement, enhance commercial activities and provide greater convenience for residents.
According to him, good road networks remain essential to community development, economic growth and improved living standards, assuring residents that his administration would continue to explore opportunities to bring meaningful relief and development to the people.

Olufade also described the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) as a platform with promising representatives committed to people-centred leadership and development-oriented governance. He commended the management and staff of Ibadan North Local Government for their cooperation and dedication to translating government policies into tangible projects.
Reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of residents, the chairman declared that the interests of the people would remain at the forefront of his administration’s priorities.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with the engineers and construction workers who would be deployed to the site throughout the construction period, acknowledging that their understanding and support would be necessary for the smooth execution of the project.
Olufade assured the people that the project would be completed and commissioned by January 2027, expressing confidence in the commitment of the contractor to deliver the road within the stipulated timeframe.

The Managing Director of Track Care, the construction company handling the project, Mr. Timothy Iyioma, assured the benefiting communities that the company would execute the road construction in line with the agreed timeline.
Timothy expressed the company’s commitment to delivering the project for the benefit of residents and equally assured the gathering that the road would be ready for commissioning by January 2027.
His assurance reinforced the chairman’s commitment to ensuring that the project moved from the flag-off stage to completion within the promised period.
In his goodwill message, the Public Relations Officer of the Allied Peoples’ Movement in Oyo State, Hon. Michael Ogunsina, commended Olufade for what he described as the fulfilment of a promise made to the community.
Ogunsina recalled that the chairman had promised approximately a year earlier to facilitate the construction of the road, expressing satisfaction that the commitment had now translated into the official commencement of the project.
He praised the chairman for taking concrete steps towards addressing the infrastructure needs of the people and offered prayers for continued success in his administration.

Also speaking at the event, the APM Oyo South Senatorial Candidate, Hon. Dhikrullahi Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo, commended Olufade for his efforts in grassroots administration and infrastructure development.
Odidiomo recalled that he had consistently encouraged the Ibadan North chairman to pursue greater political aspirations, expressing confidence in his future political journey. He said the chairman had begun building a record of service that would remain significant in his political career.
Addressing residents of Ibadan North and neighbouring Ido Local Government, Odidiomo urged them to assess political candidates based on their records, commitments and capacity to deliver on their promises.
He also appealed to the electorate to support APM candidates across the various elective positions, maintaining that he was committed to honouring his own promises if given the opportunity to serve.

The high point of the ceremony came when the APM governorship candidate in Oyo State, Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi, mounted the podium and commended Olufade for the projects executed under his leadership.
Adekanmbi described the Ibadan North chairman as one of the promising local government chairmen in the state, expressing pride in the infrastructure initiatives being undertaken by his administration.
He noted that the projects demonstrated the importance of translating political commitments into practical development that directly affects communities and improves the lives of residents.
The governorship candidate further stated that the development efforts being recorded in Ibadan North reflected the capacity of political representatives to address local needs through infrastructure and public service delivery.
Adekanmbi also criticised opposition parties, arguing that they had not presented sufficient achievements to support their campaign messages. He urged residents to consider the development record and policy commitments of candidates when making their electoral choices.
He maintained that sustained investment in infrastructure and other development initiatives would be essential to expanding economic opportunities and improving living standards across Oyo State.

Following his address, Adekanmbi formally flagged off the construction of the 4.5-kilometre road by operating an excavator at the project site and cutting the ceremonial ribbon to mark the commencement of work.

The symbolic exercise signalled the transition of the project from its announcement stage to implementation, with residents looking forward to the completion of the road in January 2027 as promised by the council chairman and the contractor.
The project is expected to improve road connectivity between the benefiting communities, ease transportation challenges and support commercial and social interactions between Ibadan North and Ido Local Government areas.
