Free Eye Screening Completed for Beneficiaries in Ibadan South-West II
Hon. Olakunle Akinsete, popularly known as Shete, has taken another significant step towards improving access to quality healthcare for elderly residents of Ibadan South-West State Constituency II, through a partnership with the Eye Care Foundation and the Olabode Fayemiro Foundation for free cataract surgery.
The initiative began with a free eye medical screening, where elderly residents were examined and those diagnosed with cataract and requiring surgical intervention were identified.
Following the successful screening exercise, arrangements have been concluded for 50 selected elderly beneficiaries to proceed to the Eye Care Foundation for cataract surgery, completely free of charge.
The partnership between Akinsete, the Eye Care Foundation and the Olabode Fayemiro Foundation is aimed at ensuring that elderly residents who might otherwise struggle to afford cataract treatment can regain clearer vision and enjoy a better quality of life.
The initiative reflects Akinsete’s commitment to people-centred service, particularly in areas of healthcare, social welfare and community development. It also demonstrates his belief that effective representation must translate into practical interventions that directly touch the lives of constituents.
The event attracted prominent personalities and stakeholders from Ibadan South-West, including Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Abayomi Fagbenro Bibire; Chairman of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Hon. Kehinde Akande; Chairman of Ibadan South-West APM, Hon. Kunle Folarin, alongside other community leaders and prominent stakeholders.
With the screening exercise completed and the beneficiaries identified, the next phase will see the selected elderly residents receive their cataract surgeries through the collaborative effort of the three partners.
For Akinsete, the objective is straightforward: to help restore sight, dignity and hope to elderly members of the community—without asking them to pay a dime.
