The Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Oloye ’Lekan Alabi, Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, veteran journalist, and elder statesman, who passed on at the age of 76.

In a condolence message, Tegbe, who is an Ibadan Mogaji said:










 




“It is with a heavy heart that I received news of the passing of an icon of culture and a distinguished elder statesman, Oloye ’Lekan Alabi, Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland.

“Baba served our dear state and the country meritoriously as Press Secretary to successive governors, and later as pioneer General Manager, Corporate Affairs of the Odu’a Group.

Beyond public service, he stood as a custodian of our Omoluabi heritage, a voice for Ibadan and Yoruba culture whose wisdom, integrity, and native intelligence shaped generations of journalists and public communicators. He was indeed an embodiment of our Omoluabi Heritage.

 

“On behalf of my family and and the entire Oguntegbe compound, I commiserate with the Olubadan-in-Council, the Alabi family, and the entire Ibadan and Yoruba nation on this great loss.

May Almighty Allah grant Baba Jannatul Firdaus, and grant his family the fortitude to bear this loss.”
