The grassroots football tournament, sponsored by the Member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON), and hosted by Omo Alhaja Viewing Gaming Arena, brought together talented young footballers from across the constituency in a celebration of sportsmanship, unity, and youth development.
At the end of the keenly contested competition, Liverpool FC lifted the championship trophy and received the first-place cash prize. Manchester United finished as runners-up and went home with the second-place cash prize, while Barcelona secured third place and received the third-place cash prize. Arsenal finished fourth.
The football competition is another in a series of 5-a-side youth tournaments initiated by Hon. Oyekunle to engage young people positively, discover football talents, and promote peaceful coexistence across Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
Addressing the teams after the final, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON) congratulated all the participants for their commitment, discipline, and display of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
“I congratulate every team that took part in this competition. While Liverpool FC emerged champions today, every participant is a winner because you have demonstrated teamwork, discipline, resilience, and respect for one another.
These are values that extend far beyond the football pitch,” he said.
The federal lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to youth development, noting that sports remain one of the most effective tools for empowering young people and nurturing future champions.
“My commitment to our youths goes beyond words. We will continue to create opportunities that inspire, unite, and empower them.
This football competition is part of our broader vision of keeping our young people productively engaged while identifying and supporting exceptional talents within our constituency,” Hon. Oyekunle added.
The tournament concluded with the presentation of trophies, medals, and cash prizes to the top three teams, amid celebrations by supporters, football enthusiasts, and members of the community, who commended Hon. Oyekunle for his continued investment in grassroots sports and youth empowerment across Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
