The Association of Meter Manufacturers of Nigeria (AMMON) has withdrawn its lawsuit against the Federal Government, removing a major legal obstacle that had delayed the procurement of 1.55 million smart electricity meters across the country.
The notice of discontinuance was filed at the Federal High Court in Kano following successful intervention by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, who facilitated discussions between AMMON, the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and other key stakeholders.
The dispute had begun in April 2026 when AMMON obtained a court injunction that halted bidding for major metering programmes, including the Distribution Sector Recovery Programme (DISREP), the Meter Acquisition Fund (MAF 3), and the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI).
According to the Ministry of Power, the resolution addressed the concerns of local manufacturers while remaining consistent with local and international procurement regulations. This agreement allows the previously stalled procurement process to resume.
The development is expected to accelerate efforts to bridge Nigeria’s electricity metering gap, reduce estimated billing, improve revenue collection for electricity distribution companies, and enhance transparency in electricity billing for millions of consumers.
