A chairmanship aspirant for Atiba Local Government in the forthcoming 2026 local government election in Oyo State, under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Surveyor Muideen Tijani, has formally launched his bid for the office, appealing to party leaders, stakeholders, and residents to support his aspiration.

Tijani made the declaration on Tuesday July 7, 2026, during a consultative meeting with leaders and stakeholders in Atiba Local Government, where he outlined his vision for grassroots development, inclusive governance, and sustainable socio-economic growth.

Addressing the gathering, the aspirant said his decision to contest was inspired by his desire to deepen democratic governance at the grassroots and build on existing developmental initiatives in the council area.

He noted that his years of public service and active participation in local politics had equipped him with the experience and understanding required to manage the affairs of the local government effectively.

According to him, his administration, if elected, would prioritise infrastructural development, improved service delivery, youth and women empowerment, and policies aimed at stimulating economic growth across communities in Atiba Local Government.

“I have had the privilege of serving our people in different capacities over the years, and those experiences have given me a deeper understanding of the needs and aspirations of our communities. My ambition is driven by a genuine commitment to provide responsive, transparent, and people-centred leadership,” Tijani said.

He described consultation as an essential part of the democratic process, stressing that his engagement with stakeholders was aimed at seeking their counsel, prayers, and support ahead of the party’s primary election.

Tijani also pledged to run an issue-based campaign founded on unity, respect, and inclusiveness, maintaining that politics should be a platform for development rather than division.

Born in Oyo town, Tijani attended L.A. Primary School, Saabo, and Isale Oyo Community Grammar School before obtaining a National Diploma from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and a Higher National Diploma from the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo.

He later qualified as a licensed surveyor after completing a Professional Diploma in Surveying and Geo-Informatics and passing the professional examinations of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON). In further pursuit of academic excellence, he earned a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal University Oye-Ekiti and is currently preparing for postgraduate studies.

His public service record includes serving as Supervisory Councillor for Health in Atiba Local Government from 2008 to 2011, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Atiba Local Government from 2018 to 2022, and currently as Supervisory Councillor for Works in the council.

In their separate remarks, stakeholders commended Tijani’s leadership qualities, professional accomplishments, and commitment to community development.

Speaking on behalf of party elders, Alhaji Quadri Olatunji described the aspirant as a disciplined and experienced administrator whose academic and professional achievements reflected his dedication to public service.

Similarly, Alhaja Bright Akewusola praised Tijani’s contributions to grassroots politics, expressing confidence in his capacity to provide purposeful leadership that allows unity to serve.

The APM Chairman in Atiba Local Government, Mr. Isiaka Adejare Ayinde, also encouraged the aspirant to sustain consultations with party members and stakeholders across the local government, assuring him of a transparent and democratic process ahead of the party’s primary election.

The consultation meeting attracted party executives, elders, community leaders, women and youth representatives, who offered prayers and goodwill messages for the aspirant as preparations for the 2026 Oyo State local government elections gathered momentum.
