Supporters of Col. Gbenga Adegbola also described him as a leader whose public service record has remained free from any proven criminal conviction. They noted that his political activities and community interventions have earned him respect across Oyo North Senatorial District.

According to the supporters, Adegbola’s reputation has been built on grassroots engagement, youth empowerment, job creation initiatives, community development projects, and his commitment to the welfare of the people. They argued that his accessibility, leadership qualities, and longstanding relationship with the electorate distinguish him among aspirants seeking to represent the district.

The supporters further maintained that the choice of candidate should be based on competence, integrity, popularity, and service to the people, urging party leaders to allow a transparent process that reflects the wishes of APC members and the supporters

In Abuja,The New Age Transformative Leadership for Good Governance [NATLFGG] has raised an alarm over the outcome of the All Progressives Congress [APC] Senatorial Primary Election in Oyo North, alleging that the authentic winner, Col. Gbenga Adegbola [Rtd.], was unlawfully replaced on the party’s final list of flag bearers.

The group, which addressed the press in Abuja on Monday, described the development as “political self-sabotage” that could hand victory to the opposition in the 2027 senatorial contest.

Speaking at the briefing, NATLFGG National Coordinator, AK Peters, said ratifying Mrs. Hannah Ogunesun as the APC candidate for Oyo North instead of Col. Adegbola was a direct truncation of the will of party members.

“Ratifying the candidature of Mrs. Hannah Ogunesun for the Oyo North Senate is a misstep. It is a political self-sabotage and such can hand over the opposition victory and it becomes a lifeline for the APC,” Peters stated.

“This is not an attack on the party. This is a warning. Proceeding with this ticket will have their consequences and those will be swift,” he added.

Also speaking, the group’s Deputy National Coordinator, Muhammad Sani, accused unnamed powerful individuals within the party of overriding the majority’s choice.

“It appears as if the will of the people has been truncated. What is democracy without respecting the will of the majority? If one person, one individual anywhere, no matter how highly placed he or she is, will determine the fate of a local government, of a constituency, of a state, you don’t have a democracy,” Sani said.

The group held its briefing under the banner: “An Urgent Memo to the All Progressives Congress: The Oyo North Ticket”, as seen on the backdrop at the press conference covered by News Central TV.

NATLFGG called on the APC national leadership to urgently uphold internal party democracy, reverse what it called an illegitimate substitution, and restore Col. Adegbola as the party’s rightful flag bearer for Oyo North Senatorial District.

The group further warned that failure to act could erode APC’s goodwill and electoral strength in the zone ahead of the next general elections.

Efforts to get a reaction from the APC Oyo State chapter and Mrs. Ogunesun’s camp were ongoing at press time.
