A prominent political stakeholder from Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo State and a loyalist of former Deputy National Chairman (South) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, Hon. Damola Olayiwola, has declared his support for the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and its 2027 governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi.

Olayiwola, alongside his supporters, publicly endorsed Adekanmbi on Friday, describing him as a visionary, experienced and competent leader with the capacity to transform Oyo State through purposeful leadership and inclusive governance.

The declaration comes amid speculations that Ambassador Arapaja may defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following reported grievances within the political camp of Governor Seyi Makinde. While the rumours of Arapaja’s possible defection have continued to generate political discussions across the state, Olayiwola said he would not be leaving for the APC, reaffirming his commitment to the APM.

Speaking on his decision, Olayiwola said Adekanmbi’s proven leadership credentials, commitment to grassroots development and passion for economic growth distinguish him as the most suitable candidate to lead Oyo State in 2027.

He maintained that the state requires a courageous and innovative leader who understands the aspirations of the people and possesses the integrity, vision and competence needed to unlock its vast economic and developmental potential.

According to him, Adekanmbi represents a new direction for Oyo State and has the capacity to deliver sustainable development across all sectors if elected governor.

Olayiwola also called on political stakeholders, party faithful and residents of the state to rally behind the APM governorship candidate, expressing confidence that Adekanmbi would provide the leadership required to move Oyo State towards greater prosperity.

His endorsement adds to the growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election as parties and aspirants intensify consultations and efforts to consolidate support across the state.
