A major political development unfolded in Oyo State on Thursday as the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, officially declared his presidential ambition during the historic Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) Unity Mega Rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

The atmosphere at the packed rally ground turned electrifying as Governor Makinde addressed thousands of party loyalists, supporters, political stakeholders, and coalition partners gathered for the grand alliance event between the PDP and APM.

In his powerful speech, Governor Makinde declared that Nigerians are now witnessing “the birth of the Reset Nigeria Movement,” a political movement aimed at rebuilding the nation and restoring democratic values, inclusiveness, and good governance across the country.
The governor emphasized the importance of a functional multi-party democracy, stating clearly that “without a multi-party system, there is no democracy,” while stressing the need for collaboration among
progressive-minded political forces to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges.
Speaking further on the newly formed alliance, Makinde confidently announced that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) would field candidates across all levels in future elections — from the presidency down to the State House of Assembly seats.

He expressed strong optimism about the electoral strength of the alliance, boldly declaring that the APM “shall emerge victorious,” as supporters erupted in loud cheers and chants across the ancient city venue.
The declaration is expected to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with analysts already describing the Ibadan rally as a defining moment in Nigeria’s evolving political history.
The unity rally witnessed the presence of several prominent political leaders, party chieftains, grassroots mobilizers, youths, women groups, and supporters from different parts of Oyo State and beyond, all united under the banner of what many described as a new political movement for national rebirth.
