Calls for the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, intensified on Thursday as tension escalated within the Oyo State House of Assembly over an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker.

The anxiety followed reports from a closed-door meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus, which reportedly descended into a heated and confrontational session.

What was expected to be a routine political caucus meeting before the legislative business, has instead exposed deepening divisions within the ruling party, raising concerns about the stability of the Assembly’s leadership.

Sources familiar with the proceedings described the atmosphere as charged and uneasy, with lawmakers sharply split over the alleged move and its potential implications.

Insiders disclosed that the unfolding situation has unsettled political circles in Ibadan, fueling speculation about a looming leadership crisis within the legislature.

According to credible sources, influential figures believed to be operating within the governor’s camp are pushing what some lawmakers interpret as a calculated attempt to remove the Speaker or compel his resignation.

The move, it was further gathered, is predicated on allegations that several legislators consider unsubstantiated and politically motivated.

The controversy has heightened fears of an internal power struggle within the PDP in Oyo State, particularly amid claims that powerful interests close to the corridors of power may be orchestrating events behind the scenes.

Although such assertions remain unverified, they have intensified unease within both the Assembly and the party.

As tensions continue to mount, Governor Makinde has been urged to step in swiftly to douse the rising crisis.

It was noted that his timely intervention is crucial to restoring calm, while preserving party unity, and preventing the situation from degenerating into a constitutional impasse.
