A former Oyo State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abimbola Adekanmbi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adekanmbi, who hails from Ona Ara Local Government Area, made the declaration in a statement made available to journalists, where he expressed his readiness to offer purposeful leadership and consolidate on the developmental strides currently being witnessed in the state.

According to him, his aspiration is driven by a deep commitment to serve the people of Oyo State and to continue the people-oriented and humanist style of governance being championed by the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde.

He assured residents of the state that his administration, if elected, would sustain and expand the developmental agenda that has transformed various sectors across the state.

Adekanmbi emphasized that the progress recorded under Governor Makinde’s leadership has laid a strong foundation for sustainable growth, noting that his vision is to build on that legacy while introducing innovative policies that will further improve the welfare of the people.

“I am stepping forward with a strong sense of duty and responsibility to the people of Oyo State.

The administration of Governor Seyi Makinde has demonstrated that governance can truly be people-focused, developmental and humane.

My resolve is to continue on this noble path and further strengthen the gains already achieved,” he said.

The governorship hopeful also assured members of the PDP and the general public that he would lead with loyalty, sincerity, and a deep sense of accountability, adding that his aspiration is rooted in service, integrity, and a genuine desire to move Oyo State to greater heights.

Adekanmbi further called on party faithful, stakeholders, and residents of the state to support his vision of sustaining good governance, inclusive development, and people-driven policies that will continue to position Oyo State as a model of progressive leadership in Nigeria.

Political observers believe that his declaration adds a new dimension to the emerging conversations around the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the election.
