The Oyo State House of Assembly has congratulated its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on the successful completion of his tenure as Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

The congratulatory message was issued on Tuesday by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Media, Public Affairs and ICT, Hon. Waheed Akintayo, who described the Speaker’s tenure as impactful, reform-driven and nationally significant.

Hon. Ilumoka lauded Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin for what he described as “outstanding achievements” recorded during his over two-year tenure, noting that the Speaker maximally deployed the office to reposition, redirect and re-engineer legislative practice and processes across State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria.

According to him, the period witnessed increased public awareness of legislative activities and decisions, which significantly strengthened accountability, transparency and citizens’ trust in governance at the sub-national level.

 


 

 

The statement noted that Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin made history as the youngest Speaker ever elected Chairman of the Conference and the first Speaker from an opposition party to occupy the position, a development that ushered in bold and far-reaching reforms within state legislatures.

Among the key achievements of his tenure, the lawmaker highlighted the digitalisation of legislative processes, the establishment of Post-Legislative Scrutiny Units in State Houses of Assembly, and sustained advocacy for fiscal transparency and improved revenue governance at the sub-national level.

The Speaker was also commended for his firm stance in defending the autonomy of State Legislatures, particularly against undue interference, while strengthening executive–legislative collaboration through strategic engagements with critical national institutions.

Furthermore, the statement acknowledged his efforts in building bridges with international development partners, advancing constitutional reform debates, promoting women and youth inclusion in governance, and fostering industrial harmony through constructive engagement with parliamentary staff bodies.

The House also noted his leadership in promoting regional and inter-state legislative cooperation, as well as his role in projecting a united and credible voice of State Assemblies on national issues.

The Assembly in the statement affirmed that Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin’s tenure will remain a reference point in the history of legislative leadership in Nigeria, marked by innovation, courage, inclusivity and institutional strengthening.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State House of Assembly congratulated the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, on his election as the new Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, and wished him a successful and impactful tenure in office.
