Ewenla Urban Forestry & Conservation has donated 1,000 mahogany seeds and 100 mahogany seedlings to the Ibarapa Central Local Government as part of efforts to support environmental sustainability, forest conservation, and economic development in Oyo State.
The donation aligns with the Executive Chairman of Ibarapa Central Local Government, Hon. Olusola Adeleke’s, commitment to enhancing the economic value of the state’s forest reserves, promoting biodiversity, and increasing the population of mahogany, a vulnerable and endangered timber species.
The initiative also forms part of activities marking the upcoming 80th birthday of Professor Femi Osofisan, Nigeria’s renowned playwright, poet, theatre critic, and social commentator, celebrated globally for his intellectual contributions and fearless critique of injustice and societal challenges.
Professor Osofisan, a multiple award-winning literary icon, has received several prestigious honors, including prizes from the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) for Drama (1980) and Poetry (1989), the PAWA Membership Honorary Award (2015), and the Thalia Prize from the International Association of Theatre Critics (2016).

He is also a distinguished recipient of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM), Nigeria’s highest academic honor, awarded in 2014.
According to Ewenla Urban Forestry & Conservation, the mahogany seeds and seedlings are to be delivered immediately, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable forestry and environmental stewardship at the grassroots.
The donation was formally received on behalf of the Ibarapa Central Local Government Representative Mr. Sunday Olagoke Olanrele, in honor of Professor Femi Osofisan, underscoring the symbolic connection between environmental preservation, intellectual legacy, and sustainable development.
The gesture has been widely commended as a meaningful blend of ecological responsibility and celebration of national excellence, reflecting a growing partnership between conservation advocates and local governance in driving sustainable progress across Ibarapa Central and Oyo state at large.
