The Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Akeem Olatunji, has called on Governor Seyi Makinde to answer what he described as the “clear and persistent yearnings of Nigerians” by joining the 2027 presidential race.

Olatunji made the appeal on Thursday during the resumed monthly meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held at the Oluyole LG party’s Secretariat in Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.

He said the clamour for Makinde’s leadership beyond Oyo State was no longer a matter of sentiment but of national necessity, given the governor’s record of performance and visionary leadership.

Speaking with conviction, Olatunji said Governor Makinde had, over the years, demonstrated that good governance was possible when sincerity of purpose meets pragmatic action.

“Governor Seyi Makinde has shown Nigerians what visionary, pragmatic, and all-inclusive leadership can achieve. He has proven that a prosperous and united Nigeria is not a myth but a reality waiting to be built,” he said.

He praised Makinde’s economic management acumen, describing it as “a masterclass in prudence and innovation” that has translated into unprecedented development across various sectors.

“Many pessimists, including members of the opposition, thought his ambitious reforms in the state would crumble under pressure, but today, even they are witnesses to the fact that Oyo State has become a model for sustainable growth in Nigeria,” he added.

Olatunji emphasized that Makinde’s leadership represents hope for millions of Nigerians who still believe that politics can be decent and development-focused.

He urged the governor not to ignore the mounting calls from across the country urging him to run for the number one office in 2027.

“Governor Makinde represents the hope of a better tomorrow for many Nigerians across all age brackets. His humility, competence, and empathy stand him out. He cannot afford to ignore this national call,” he stated.

Expressing optimism about Makinde’s prospects on the national stage, Olatunji said leaders of the opposition and members of other political coalitions would rally around him if he declares interest in the presidency.

“His unmatched economic blueprint and the reforms he has driven across education, infrastructure, agriculture, and public service have earned him admiration even beyond partisan lines. Nigerians are simply yearning for the kind of stability and progress Makinde embodies,” Olatunji concluded.

The meeting, which brought together PDP leaders and stakeholders in Oluyole Local Government, also reviewed recent developments within the party and discussed strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
