The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has commended party leaders and members for the peaceful conduct of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Local Government Congresses across the 33 council areas held on Saturday.

Barr. Lawal, in a statement on Sunday, expressed satisfaction with the transparent and democratic process that yielded the new council executives across the 33 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

He noted that the smooth conduct of the congresses is a testament to the party’s unity and cohesion at the grassroots level.

The Acting Governor, who equally described the successful outcome as a clear demonstration of the party’s unwavering commitment to inclusiveness, fairness, and internal democracy, added that the congresses have once again showcased the PDP as a credible alternative capable of restoring good governance in Nigeria.

He said the exercise has further solidified the party’s reputation for maturity, unity, and responsibility, positioning it as a viable option for Nigerians beyond Oyo state.

He specifically commended the delegates, stakeholders, and party members for their maturity and consensus-arrangement during the congresses, noting that the peaceful process reflects the PDP’s resilience and readiness to provide purposeful leadership.

Barr. Lawal also lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), and the security agencies for their professionalism, which ensured a transparent, orderly, and credible process.

He said, “I sincerely commend our party members across the 33 local government areas for conducting themselves peacefully and in accordance with the party’s guidelines.

This demonstrates our unity and readiness to face the future as one indivisible political family in Oyo State under Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership.

“The successful conduct of the congresses is not just a victory for the PDP family, but also a sign of growing confidence in the PDP as a party of hope ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The PDP has shown that it provides a level playing field and prioritizes the will of the people.”

The Acting Governor however encouraged party stakeholders and leaders to continue fostering consensus and inclusivity, particularly as the party prepares for future elections.

He charged the new local government executives to view their election as a call to service, and an opportunity to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

He also urged them to collaborate with other stakeholders to broaden the PDP’s outreach, engage the people, and promote accountability and inclusivity.
