In a major step toward reclaiming the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on today, July 21, 2025 conducted its primary election, producing Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as Don, as the party’s candidate for the August 16 bye-election.

The primary took place at the Ibadan North Local Government Registry Hall, where delegates from all 12 wards in the local government gathered in a peaceful and democratic atmosphere.

A total of 37 accredited delegates, including one national delegate, participated in the process and all cast their votes in favour of Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle Don, marking a unanimous endorsement of his candidacy.

The election was conducted by members of the Primary Election Committee appointed by the National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and was supervised by officials of the Oyo State PDP, with INEC observers and security agencies present to ensure transparency, orderliness, and compliance with electoral guidelines.

In a rare show of total consensus, all accredited delegates voted unanimously for Hon. Oyekunle Don, affirming his loyalty, and credibility within the party.

 




 

In his post-election remarks, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle Don thanked the delegates and leaders for their overwhelming support:

“I am sincerely grateful to our great party, the PDP, and to all our delegates for this honour.

This is not just my victory, it is a collective mandate to move Ibadan North forward.

I am committed to delivering a people-centered representation.”

Prominent PDP leaders and stakeholders who witnessed the event described the process as a model of internal democracy and commended the choice of Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle Don, describing him as a tested grassroots mobilizer and party loyalist.

The Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election, as scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is slated to hold on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

With the successful conclusion of the primary, the PDP is now set to intensify its campaign ahead of the election, aiming to secure victory and return the seat to the party.
