The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Local Government has successfully conducted its ad-hoc delegate congress across the 12 wards of the local government in preparation for the upcoming party primary scheduled for July 21, ahead of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency Bye-election.

The exercise, which took place on Thursday, July 17, was held at the PDP Party Secretariat, Yemetu, and was supervised by the Oyo State PDP Secretary, Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, in line with the party’s internal democratic process.
According to the party’s guidelines, each of the 12 wards in Ibadan North produced three ad-hoc delegates, bringing the total number of elected delegates to 36.
These delegates will participate in the upcoming party primary to elect the PDP’s flagbearer for the Federal Constituency Bye-election.

The congress was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency, fairness, and compliance with electoral guidelines.

Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, while addressing party members and observers at the secretariat, praised the peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise and commended stakeholders for their commitment to the ideals of the PDP.
“The PDP in Ibadan North has once again demonstrated internal unity, grassroots mobilisation, and adherence to due process.
The peaceful atmosphere and massive turnout of party members show that our party remains the preferred platform for the people,” he said.

The outcome of the ad-hoc delegate exercise will serve as a key foundation for the upcoming party primary, where the PDP will select its candidate to represent Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier fixed August 16, 2025, for the conduct of the bye-election, following the vacancy in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat.
