The Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government and Political Head of Ajorosun LCDA, Hon. Ibrahim Oladebo Simple, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.

In a solemn condolence message released to the press, Hon. Oladebo described the monarch’s death as a monumental loss, not just to Ibadanland, but to the entire Yoruba race and Nigeria at large.

He noted that despite the short duration of Kabiyesi’s reign, it was marked by dignity, unity, and cultural pride.

“Oba Owolabi Olakulehin embodied everything noble and dignified about Yoruba royalty, a custodian of our culture, a peacemaker, and a bridge-builder between generations.

Though his time on the throne was brief, the grace and strength he brought to the revered Olubadan stool were immeasurable,” Hon. Oladebo said.

He further commended the late monarch’s efforts at preserving the heritage and traditions of Ibadanland while fostering harmony among the people.

The Egbeda LG vice chairman extended heartfelt condolences to the royal family, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and the entire people of Ibadanland.

He also lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to upholding the dignity and sanctity of the traditional institution in Oyo State.

“May Kabiyesi’s gentle soul find eternal rest. The crown has fallen, but his legacy of wisdom, unity, and humility will forever remain with us,” Hon. Oladebo concluded.

Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, ascended the throne in July 2024 following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Lekan Balogun.
