In commemoration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, the Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government and Political Head/Administrator of Ajorosun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ibrahim Oladebo “Simple”, has called on Nigerians to remain united and deeply committed to democratic values, especially at the grassroots where the impact of governance is most felt.
Speaking on the significance of June 12, Hon. Ibrahim Oladebo emphasized that the memory of the historic 1993 elections, and the struggles that followed, should inspire every tier of government to build a more responsive and inclusive system that places people first.
“June 12 is a day that symbolizes the power of collective will and national resilience.
It is not just a date on the calendar, but a representation of what we can achieve when we stand together across party lines, ethnic identities, and social classes,” he said.
As the political head and administrator of Ajorosun LCDA, Hon. Simple reaffirmed his commitment to community-centered leadership, noting that real democracy begins with responsive local governance that listens, understands, and delivers.
“At the local level, we are closest to the people, and it is here that democracy must come alive—not as a theory, but as action.
We are building schools, supporting farmers, empowering women and youths, and ensuring no community is left behind,” he noted.
He commended the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for promoting a political atmosphere where local government administrators are empowered to serve effectively, adding that the strength of democracy lies in decentralization and people-driven governance.
Hon. Oladebo also used the occasion to salute the heroes and heroines of democracy—those who stood firm in the face of injustice and championed the right of Nigerians to choose their leaders freely.
“We stand on the shoulders of courageous men and women like Chief MKO Abiola who paid the ultimate price.
Our duty now is to deepen the legacy they left behind by ensuring integrity, service, and development define our leadership at all levels,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the Ajorosun LCDA political head called for increased youth inclusion in political discourse and governance, describing the younger generation as “the heartbeat of our future democracy.”
“Democracy is evolving, and our youth must not just be voters, they must be leaders, thinkers, and reformers,” he said.
Hon. Ibrahim Oladebo “Simple” concluded his Democracy Day message with a renewed pledge to serve his people with humility, fairness, and tireless dedication.
“Let June 12 remind us not just of what we fought for, but what we must protect.
A more prosperous, united, and just Nigeria is possible—and we must build it from the grassroots up.”
