In a significant move towards enhancing community safety, Akinyele Local Government recently hosted a one-day stakeholders’ awareness and sensitization program focused on tanker accidents and fire response.

Organized collaboratively by the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA), the event aimed to address the growing concerns surrounding tanker incidents and their associated risks.

The program brought together various stakeholders, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in disaster management and prevention.


 

Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, the Executive Chairman of Akinyele LG, was commended for his swift response to the request from NEMA and OYSEMA, which ultimately facilitated the successful execution of this vital program.

In his welcome address, The Executive Chairman of Akinyele LG, Hon Akinwole Akinleye expressed gratitude to both agencies for choosing Akinyele LG as the venue for this crucial initiative.

His leadership and commitment to community welfare were evident as he rallied local stakeholders to engage actively in the discussions aimed at mitigating the risks posed by tanker incidents.

In his address, Hon. Akinleye acknowledged the unwavering efforts of security operatives in Akinyele LG in curbing tanker accidents and fire-related issues.

He emphasized the need for continuous vigilance and proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents.

The Executive Chairman urged attendees to take full advantage of the sensitization program, reinforcing the message that awareness and preparedness are key to effective disaster response.

The program attracted a diverse group of participants, including representatives from the Nigerian Police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun, Local Security Operatives, The Nigerian Red Cross, tanker drivers, Community Development Committees (CDC), religious leaders, Youth bodies, The Oyo State Park Management System, market leaders, fire service personnel amongst This multi-agency collaboration underscored the critical nature of community involvement in emergency management and the need for a unified response to potential disasters.

During the event, various presentations and discussions were held, focusing on best practices for accident prevention, emergency response protocols, and community engagement strategies.

Stakeholders shared their experiences, challenges, and success stories, fostering a collaborative environment that encouraged the exchange of ideas and solutions.

The program also provided an opportunity for participants to ask questions and seek clarification on safety measures and response procedures.
