The Oyo State Government has intensified logistics and security preparations for the upcoming coronation of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, scheduled for April 5, 2025, at Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.
Chairman of the coronation committee and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, confirmed this to newsmen on Wednesday, February 19 after a meeting of the committee held at the Conference Room of the Ministry.
Otunba Ojo, in his opening remarks emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a seamless, secured and memorable coronation event.
He noted that the installation committee, inaugurated earlier this month, has been divided into subcommittees and are working closely with the Local Organizing Committee to effectively coordinate various aspects of the ceremony, including security, cultural displays, and logistics.
The 25-member installation committee comprises representatives from the Alaafin’s palace, state government officials, members of the state assembly and executive chairmen from Oyo zone as well as other key stakeholders.
Otunba Ojo disclosed that the commissioner for Health has also been inculcated into the installation committee to ensure that all necessary safety measures are put in place ahead of the official coronation ceremony.
Addressing recent concerns about potential threats to the coronation, the commissioner debunked claims suggesting that the event might be jeopardized due to the absence of an Osun monarch.
Otunba Ojo labeled such reports as “malicious” and “a distortion and misrepresentation of historical facts about Oyo traditional monarchy,” saying the state government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a colorful coronation ceremony.
He reassured the public that all traditional rites and protocols are being meticulously observed, and there are no obstacles to the coronation proceeding as planned.
The Commissioner disclosed that the forthcoming coronation is anticipated to draw dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including traditional rulers, government officials, and prominent figures from various sectors.
He urged all all stakeholders and residents to cooperate with security personnel and adhere to guidelines to ensure a peaceful and successful celebration.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Compol Fatai Owoseni and the Executive Assistant on Security Matters, Compol Sunday Odukoya in their separate submissions assured that maximum security measures are being put in place ahead of the event.
