As the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial election draws near, some contenders have emerged, vying for the coveted seat. However, it is crucial to examine the motivations behind their ambitions.

Are they genuinely committed to serving the good people of Oyo State, or are they driven by personal interests and a lust for power?

The electorate in Oyo State deserves leaders who prioritize their welfare, security, and prosperity. They need politicians who are committed to transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Voters need to be cautious of deceitful tactics and empty promises, which can lead to disappointment and stagnation.

In the words of Governor Seyi Makinde, the people of Oyo State have suffered enough hardship inflicted by previous administrations. It is time for a change, but this change must be driven by a genuine desire to serve the people, not personal interests.

Mr Governor Sir, are you saying PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION?

Anyway, as the people of Oyo State prepare to make their choice in the 2027 gubernatorial election, they must remember that the power to shape their future lies in their hands.

They must demand more from their leaders, expecting transparency, accountability, and a commitment to the welfare of all citizens.

The people of Oyo State should not be convinced, confused, or deceived by money, gifts, donations, or other tactics.

Instead, they should prioritize the future of their children, recognizing that good leadership is essential for a prosperous and secure future.

The recent crisis that led to a stampede on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, is a stark reminder of the consequences of poverty and poor leadership.

It is crucial to remember that the children of politicians were not involved in the stampede; it was the children of the electorate who suffered.

The “politics of poisonous rat and dangerous cat” must give way to a new era of leadership, characterized by integrity, compassion, and a genuine desire to serve the people. The people of Oyo State deserve nothing less.

In this critical election year, voters need to be discerning and vigilant. They must scrutinize the candidates’ track records, policy proposals, and character. They must ask tough questions and demand clear answers.

What are the candidates’ plans for addressing the state’s economic challenges? How do they intend to improve the healthcare and education systems? What strategies will they employ to ensure the security and safety of citizens?

The people of Oyo State must also be wary of politicians who rely on divisive rhetoric, ethnic or religious sentiments, and other forms of manipulation to garner support. Such tactics are designed to distract from the real issues and obscure the truth.

Instead, voters should look for candidates who demonstrate a genuine commitment to the welfare of all citizens, regardless of their background, religion, or ethnicity. They should support leaders who are transparent, accountable, and willing to listen to the people.

As the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial election approaches, Governor Seyi Makinde has a crucial role to play in determining the future of the state. He must exercise caution in selecting his successor, as the people of Oyo deserve good leadership.

Oyo State’s strategic position as a base for Southwest or even Nigeria’s Politics means that it cannot afford to be under the rule of an inexperienced successor without a clear blueprint for the state’s development.

Regardless of party affiliation, whether PDP, APC, or THE THIRD FORCE, Governor Makinde must choose wisely and endorse a candidate with a proven track record and a clear vision for the state’s future.

The ideal candidate must possess certain qualities, including a willingness to listen to the people and a commitment to serving their interests.

He must not be an arrogant or inexperienced individual who seeks power for personal gain, but rather a visionary leader with a clear plan for the state’s development.

Furthermore, the candidate must be someone who has demonstrated a genuine interest in the welfare of the people, rather than just seeking power to accumulate wealth. He must be a leader who is accountable, transparent, and responsive to the needs of the people.

The future of Oyo State depends on this critical decision, and Governor Makinde must prioritize the welfare and prosperity of the people. By doing so, he will ensure that his legacy endures and that Oyo State continues to thrive long after his tenure.

In his State of the State Address, Governor Makinde highlighted his administration’s achievements, including the completion of several road projects, the upgrade of healthcare facilities, and the promotion of agricultural development.

As he prepares to hand over the reins, he must ensure that his successor is committed to building on these achievements and taking the state to even greater heights.

As the 2027 Oyo State gubernatorial election approaches, the people of Oyo State have a unique opportunity to shape their future. They must seize this moment, demanding more from their leaders and insisting on a new era of transparent, accountable, and compassionate governance.

The future of Oyo State depends on it.
