Spending a day in the office of Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, is an eye-opening experience that reveals the true essence of visionary leadership.
His hands-on approach and dedication to addressing the needs of his people and setting high standards in governance have earned him a reputation as one of the most, if not the only impactful youth in government in Oyo State.
Since his inauguration as Executive Chairman, his initiatives have not only addressed immediate needs of the people, but have also laid a foundation for sustainable development in Ibadan North Local Government.
On 17th September 2024, I had an appointment for an academic/research discourse with the amiable Mr. Chairman fixed for 9 am. But to my surprise, where does a political office holder resume to office as early as 8 am? I can tell you for free that one does, at Ibadan North. Olufade is his name.
The day started with touring facilities and agencies within the council area, then attending to some urgent official duties.
On this same day, an agricultural initiative in form of a capacity building workshop, in collaboration with the Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progress and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) was hosted with the aim of providing farmers with the resources and support necessary to enhance agricultural productivity.
Despite Ibadan North not being predominantly agrarian, Hon. Olufade demonstrated his commitment to food security and economic empowerment through notable contributions of modern ideas and 100 acres of land donated as a pilot scheme with more to follow in due time.
Also, there was the announcement of the revival of the Garri Processing Plant at Bodija Market which would be made accessible for all cassava farmers in the local government.
These initiatives reflect his ability to think beyond traditional limitations and tackle food insecurity head-on.
Shortly afterwards, we made our way to the University College Hospital UCH to meet with top administrators and heads of unions on the premises. Recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare, Hon. Olufade announced that hundreds of Ibadan North residents have been enrolled in the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA).
The initiative aims at ensuring vulnerable individuals and families have access to affordable and quality healthcare services. This is indeed an evident proof of his unwavering dedication to improving public health and safeguarding the well-being of his people.
In a bid to address the gap left by federal interventions, Hon. Olufade gave the assurance to revitalize essential infrastructure, notably, water supply and street lighting within the University College Hospital (UCH) precincts, enhancing the safety and functionality of this critical healthcare environment.
Additionally, he announced the recent distribution of 120 solar-powered streetlights across various wards which has significantly improved security and quality of life for residents which is part of his commitment to creating a more livable, secured and sustainable community.
On the occasion of his birthday today, it is essential to celebrate how he has redefined governance with compassion, foresight and initiatives that addresses immediate community needs and also lay a foundation for sustainable development.
On this day, I join well-wishers from all around the world to wish you a Happy Birthday, Long Life and Prosperity, Mr. Chairman.
