The Forum of Local Government Special Assistants (SAs) in Oyo State gathered for a momentous event on Thursday, celebrating the 57th birthday of Governor Seyi Makinde with a documentary birthday celebration and the unveiling of the GSM Birthday Exercise Books.
The event, which was attended by representatives from all 33 local government areas of Oyo State, focused on leadership and legacy, underscoring the Governor’s transformative impact on the state.
The guest speaker for the occasion was Oloye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, FCA, the Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, Chairman of Solutions 93.9 FM Ibadan, and a prominent chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State. Adegoke delivered a stirring address centered around the theme: “Leadership and Legacy: Exploring GSM’s Leadership Style and the Impact of His Legacy in Oyo State.”
In his speech, Adegoke commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his exemplary leadership, particularly highlighting his style of governance, which emphasizes openness, inclusivity, and accessibility. He cited the recent town hall meeting held by Governor Makinde, where citizens were directly engaged in discussions about the state’s budget, as a powerful example of leadership that listens and responds to the needs of the people.
“Governor Makinde has shown that a great leader listens. His approach to governance, where the public is not just informed but actively engaged, is a lesson in participatory leadership. The recent town hall meeting on the budget is a prime example of how a leader should be in tune with the concerns of his people,” Adegoke stated.
The seasoned leader and business mogul urged the Local Government Special Assistants to adopt similar qualities of good governance in their roles, emphasizing the importance of integrity, vitality, and service. He challenged them to be leaders who are not only capable and willing but also energetic and healthy, ensuring they remain fit to carry out their duties effectively.
“I urge you all to follow the example set by Governor Makinde. Be leaders who serve with integrity, who are committed to your responsibilities, and who lead by example. Your leadership should not only be about titles but about making a meaningful difference in the lives of your communities,” Adegoke admonished the Special Assistants.
The highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of the GSM Birthday Exercise Books, an educational initiative aimed at promoting learning among secondary school students in Oyo State. These specially branded exercise books will be distributed to students across the state, reinforcing Governor Makinde’s commitment to improving the state’s educational system.
The event also saw the presentation of awards to distinguished individuals including Oloye Adegoke himself, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the growth and development of Oyo State, and Michael Ogunsina, the PDP Youth Leader and others , for their exemplary work in empowering the youth and advancing the governor’s vision for a sustainable Oyo State.
