Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State has become the first in the state to inaugurate a statutory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Local Government Committee, in line with the NYSC Act.

The inauguration, which took place recently, was presided over by the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Engineer Akeem Olatunji.

Speaking at the inauguration yesterday at the LG Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre in Ibadan, Olatunji emphasized the significance of prioritizing the welfare of Corps members, which he said motivated the establishment of the committee.

He reiterated his commitment to creating a conducive environment for Corps members serving in the council area.

“As Chairman, I am committed to supporting the Corps members, and ensure their well-being, and also ensure their smooth integration into our community,” Olatunji stated.

“It is clear to all that governor Seyi Makinde has committed himself to not just the development and well-being of youths in the state but also their grooming and transition into future leadership roles at all levels.

“So, like I have always said during my electioneering campaign, my administration is fully aligned with governor Makinde’s vision for our youths because we want cohesion of government policies and programs to impact our growth process here in Oluyole LG.

“And I can assure that we will continue to partner with NYSC as our partner in progress to drive our youth development programs and initiatives at the grassroots.” Olatunji said.

Commending the initiative, the State Coordinator of NYSC in Oyo State, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche, praised Engineer Olatunji for setting a standard for other local government chairmen.

He noted that the committee would play a key role in promoting the welfare, security, and cultural integration of Corps members posted to Oluyole LG.

“This initiative demonstrates a commitment to ensuring Corps members have a safe and supportive environment in Oluyole,” Oche stated.

The newly inaugurated committee is composed of representatives from various sectors, including traditional rulers, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and the ministries of Education, Health, Social Welfare, and Community Development. The private sector and the NYSC Local Government Inspector are also represented.

Engr. Akeem Olatunji will serve as the Chairman of the committee, with other members including Alhaji Chief Kabiru Olajide (Baale of Ayegun Oleyo), Mr. Emmanuel Ehiehoyo (DPO Idi-Ayunre), Mr. Mumini Alaba, Dr. O. M. Akanni, Mr. Sunday Aborimoh, and Mr. Tunde Oladipo.

According to stakeholders at the event, the formation of the NYSC Local Government Committee in Oluyole LG would serve as a model for other local governments in Oyo State.
