Ademola Lookman netted twice as Nigeria’s Super Eagles triumphed 3-0 over Benin Republic in an AFCON 2025 qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Lookman, the Atalanta winger, scored in both halves, with Victor Osimhen adding another goal after coming on as a second-half substitute.

This win avenged a previous 2-1 loss to Benin in Abidjan and marked a strong start for interim coach Austin Eguavoen.

Nigeria dominated the game, but early missed chances and good goalkeeping by Benin’s Marcel Dandjinou kept the score close.

Victor Boniface and Samuel Chukwueze both had opportunities denied.

Lookman finally broke the deadlock just before halftime, and Osimhen extended the lead with a volley, ending his six-game goal drought for the national team.

Lookman sealed the victory with his second goal in the 85th minute.

With this win, Nigeria leads Group D in the AFCON qualifiers, while Benin Republic sits at the bottom.
