In a concerted effort to enhance the educational landscape of Ibadan North Local Government, the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Abiola Sunday Shomulu, held a pivotal strategic meeting yesterday with key stakeholders.

The meeting, which took place at the councilors’ chamber, aimed to chart a way forward for educational development in Ibadan North Local Government area.

Hon. Shomulu, who represents Ward 11 of Ibadan North Local Government, orchestrated this significant meeting to address a wide array of issues currently impacting the educational sector.

The comprehensive discussions covered crucial topics including school security, flood management in vulnerable schools, organization of coaching classes for pupils, teacher and non-teaching staff welfare, and the provision of essential learning, writing, and teaching materials.

One of the primary concerns discussed was the security of schools, with stakeholders exploring various strategies to ensure a safe learning environment for students.

Additionally, the recurring issue of flooding in certain schools was examined, with proposals put forward for a way out to put a stop to it.

The welfare of teachers and non-teaching staff was another critical point of discussion. Hon. Shomulu and stakeholders deliberated on ways to improve working conditions and support for these vital personnel, recognizing their crucial role in fostering a conducive educational environment. Moreover, the provision of adequate learning and teaching materials was emphasized, highlighting the need for well-equipped classrooms to facilitate effective learning.

An innovative aspect of the meeting was the arrangement for organizing coaching classes for pupils. This initiative aims to provide extra academic support to students, helping them to achieve better educational outcomes. Consistent sensitization of pupils was also a focal point, with discussions on how to educate students about the importance of distancing themselves from nefarious activities that could jeopardize their education and future prospects.

The strategic meeting witnessed the presence of notable figures, including the Director of Education and Social Services of Ibadan North Local Government, Alhaja Najimdeen Qudrat; Ibadan North Education Secretary, Mrs. Adewumi Adebusola; Hon. Feranmi, councilor representing Ward 3; Hon. Raheem Olaide Sakiru, Supervisory Councilor for Education; Comrade Odewale Akeem Bakare, Special Assistant on Education; and Hon. Ajibola Idriz Ajibola, Special Assistant on Youth and Sports.

Each stakeholder brought significant insights to the table, contributing to a robust discussion on the way forward. Their inputs were well-received, and there is a collective hope that the recommendations made during the meeting will be swiftly implemented by the executive arm.

In his closing remarks, Hon. Abiola Sunday Shomulu expressed his deep appreciation to all stakeholders for their attendance and meaningful contributions.

He lauded their commitment to educational improvement in Ibadan North Local Government, stating that their active participation underscored a shared vision for a brighter future for the area’s educational sector.
