Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, has issued a stern warning to coaches in the state against exploiting athletes.
Speaking at a meeting with management staff, sports officers, and coaches at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adegoke expressed her displeasure at the unwholesome practices of some coaches who take undue advantage of innocent athletes.
Adegoke vowed that punitive measures would be taken against erring coaches, emphasizing that the ministry would not hesitate to penalize them accordingly. She urged coaches to inculcate discipline in their athletes and exhibit exemplary leadership qualities to mold their lives.
The commissioner also charged coaches to intensify their efforts in training athletes for the forthcoming National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, scheduled for September 10-20, 2024.
She cautioned workers to be security conscious to prevent hoodlums and miscreants from constituting a nuisance within the stadium, noting that the government would soon embark on strategies to fortify the stadium’s security network.
Adegoke pledged that the Oyo State Government would provide sporting equipment to meet the needs of athletes before the year ends.
