In a proactive response to the ongoing cholera outbreak, the Ward 6 Councilor of Ibadan North Local Government, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim Faira, has launched a purposeful environmental sanitation campaign in the ward.
The sanitation drive commenced today, June 29, 2024, following a call from the executive chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, who urged residents to spread awareness of disease prevention.
Addressing the press during the sanitation activities, Alhaji Faira emphasized the critical importance of maintaining a clean environment to curb the spread of cholera.
“The first step to take is to keep the environment very clean,” he stated.
Alhaji Faira highlighted that the sanitation effort aligns with Hon. Olufade’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and promised that these activities would be conducted at least twice a month.
The initial phase of the sanitation took place around Sabo Suya Road and Sabo Health Center Road, with plans to extend the efforts throughout Ward 6.
During the exercise, community leaders appealed to the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for the repair of the deteriorating Sabo Suya and Health Center roads.
Ward 6 Councilor, Alhaji Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim Faira, assured them that their concerns would be conveyed to the governor, whom he described as dedicated to improving the quality of life for the people.
He also expressed confidence that with Hon. Olufade at the helm, many of the community’s issues would be addressed.
The event saw the participation of notable community leaders, including Alhaji Danjuma Yakubu, Chairman of the Council of Chiefs; Alhaji Yunusa Atiku, Waziri of Ibadan Land; Alhaji Isa Bawa, Chiroma of Ibadan Land; and Alhaji Danjuma Garas, Garkuwa of Ibadan Land. Political figures present included Alhaji Danjuma, Hon. Jelil Hamza (Hon. Jar), Said M. Said (Mukeso), Dr. Salisu Mikailu, Alhaji Sani Mustapha, and the ward chairman, vice-chairman, and executive members.
