Oyo Born Makert leader Princess Folashade Abeo Nurudeen has called on traders in Oyo state to prioritize cholera awareness and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
Expressing her concern in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday, Princess Afolashade emphasized the importance of proper hygiene practices, clean water, and sanitation in combating cholera.
She urged traders to ensure that their stalls and surroundings are kept clean and hygienic, and to report any cases of cholera or diarrhea to the market authorities immediately.
The market leader also announced plans to collaborate with health officials to provide cholera vaccination and education to traders and customers.
Cholera has been a major concern in the country presently, with several cases reported in recent weeks. The government’s efforts are seen as a crucial step in preventing the spread of the disease.
By prioritizing cholera awareness and taking necessary precautions, market should aim to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all.
“To prevent the spread of cholera, we urge all Oyo market traders to be more vigilant, imbibe good sanitation and hygiene practices at home and in their workplace and take preventive measures such as keeping their environment clean always and disposing of waste properly at designated places.
“It is also important for Oyo residents to avoid patronage of unregistered Tiger-nut which has been acknowledged as the cause of spread of cholera in Ogun and Lagos state,” she said.
