In response to the recent cholera outbreak, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has issued a call to action for all residents to prioritize prevention and awareness.

In a message released through his Head of Media Unit, Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola, the chairman implored the residents to spread awareness about prevention, not the disease.

“My good people of Ibadan North Local Government, the cholera outbreak is real.

Let’s spread awareness about prevention, not the disease. Let’s adhere tenaciously to the preventive measures below to protect ourselves and our families:

  1. Drink Only Safe, Clean Water: Ensure all drinking water is either boiled, bottled, or chemically treated to eliminate contamination.
  2. Wash Your Hands Frequently: Use soap and clean water, especially before eating or preparing food, and after using the toilet.
  3. Eat Only Well-Cooked Food: Avoid raw or undercooked foods, particularly seafood and street food.
  4. Maintain Proper Sanitation and Hygiene: Dispose of waste properly and keep your surroundings clean to prevent bacterial growth.
  5. Seek Medical Attention Immediately if Symptoms Occur: Symptoms of cholera include severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. Early medical intervention is crucial.

Local health officials are actively working to control the outbreak, but community cooperation is essential to safeguard public health.

Together, we can prevent the spread of cholera.

Stay informed. Stay safe.

Signed,
Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola
Head of Media Unit to Ibadan North Local Government Chairman
